On Monday the school that I've been volunteering at asked me if I would be willing to substitute teach for this week and possibly next week because one of the middle school teachers fell into a hole and sprained his ankle. Since I thought it would be good experience for me, I said sure, why not? Oh. My. Goodness. Today was only my second day teaching math to seventh and eighth graders, and it feels like it's been weeks. I like math, so the content piece of it has been fine, but I've had a difficult time with the classroom management. The kids don't really want to listen to me because I'm not their regular teacher and they don't know me. I think I said some variation of "stooopppp taaaalking" about a thousand times. They're also not too happy with me because I wouldn't let them use calculators while they were doing their practice problems.
At any rate, I probably won't be posting anything more until the weekend. The teacher didn't leave me any lesson plans, so I've had to plan out on my own what to do with each of the classes. Hopefully I will survive the next few days and won't have to write any kids up!
