Milk

Similar to what's consumed in many European countries, the milk in Colombia has a long shelf life. You can buy it in either a box or a bag and it can last months in the pantry until it is opened and chilled. In order to make it last longer, the milk undergoes ultra-high temperature (UHT) processing to sterilize it (the temperature is much higher than that used to pasteurize the milk we are used to). Because of the high heat, the milk here looks a little less white and tastes a bit different than American milk. But it's kind of nice that we can stock up!
