I really like yogurt, especially plain or vanilla flavored. The yogurt situation here is similar to what it was when I lived in Spain: most common is the liquid, drinkable kind in a sweet, fruity flavor. Some yogurt is sold in small containers and is a creamier consistency, but there is nothing close to Greek yogurt. Every so often I can find bottles of plain, liquid yogurt in the store, so I usually snatch up a few of those when I see them.
For my birthday this past October, I asked for a yogurt maker. The only ingredients you need are milk and yogurt cultures (either purchased or from some leftover plain yogurt). You heat the milk, add the cultures, then pour into 6 ounce jars and put them in the incubator for 8-9 hours. Here is my yogurt in the incubator:
Now I can have thick, plain yogurt anytime I want...and I can make tzatziki sauce!
