Shards of Glass

We got quite a scare on Sunday afternoon. As a storm came rolling in, Scott and I stood at the sliding glass door to our balcony and watched the waves and clouds change. After a few minutes, Scott sat down on the couch and I went into the kitchen to start dinner. The wind started howling, and all of the sudden there was a huge crash and shattered glass was all over the floor. The sliding glass door had exploded into our apartment (we're not sure why it happened). I am so thankful that we were not still standing in front of the door when the glass broke.

Apparently the storm was one of the worst Cartagena has seen in years. The same thing happened to the people who live on the 20th floor of our building. Right now we have a plastic tarp on our door until they can get a new piece of glass put in, and I am almost done cleaning up the shards of glass that were everywhere.

Here is what our apartment looked like after the storm calmed down:

Update: A crew came to install the new glass, so everything is back to normal. When we were waiting for them to arrive, we wondered what was taking them so long to come up the elevator with the glass. It turns out they rode up on top of the elevator (in the elevator shaft)...only in Colombia!

  1. Oh my gosh! I'm also glad you weren't standing in front of the doors.
