While I was in Bogota, I spent several hours walking around the Botero art museum (Fernando Botero is Colombia's most famous artist). The museum opened in 2000 and all of the works on display are from Botero's personal collection. There are over 100 works (drawings, paintings, and sculptures) by Botero himself and 85 by other prominent artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. And when I say prominent, I mean
prominent: Picasso, Miro, Dali, Degas, Monet, Renoir, and more. It was absolutely an afternoon well spent.
Botero is well known for his specific style of art (often referred to as "Boterismo") in which his subjects are depicted in a proportionally exaggerated way. His paintings and sculptures are on display around the world.
